The currency is the dirham (Dhs or AED). The dirham is linked to the U.S. dollar since 1980 with an average exchange rate (almost fixed) 3.67 Dhs.(Updated on 03/06/2013)

They can also change into Euros and the exchange rate is volatile but close to 1 € = 4.7 AED/DHS. (Updated on 03/06/2013)

It is preferable to exchange in banks or exchange offices. Hotel receptions often change currencies; however they almost always make money out of it, which is why it is always better to exchange money in an official exchange house.

Credit Cards
American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard or Visa are widely accepted in malls, supermarkets, shops, hotels and restaurants. Small shops and restaurants typically prefer cash payment.
